An erect, monoecious pubescent branched urticating subshrub up to 30 cm.. Petioles 5–8 mm. long; blade ovate, 3–5 cm. long, 1.7–3 cm. wide, acute, cordate, sharply serrate, membranaceous, 5–9-nerved from the base, lateral nerves 3–4 pairs, not prominent above, scarcely so beneath, evenly pubescent and with stinging hairs along the main nerves above and beneath.. Stipules lanceolate, 4–5 mm. long, sparingly pubescent.. Inflorescences leaf-opposed, 5–10 cm. long, the peduncles 1.5–4 cm. long, mostly ♂ with 1–2 basal ♀ flowers; axis densely pubescent, somewhat urticating; ♂ bracts elliptic-lanceolate, 2.5 mm. long, acute, entire, pubescent, 3-flowered; bracteoles smaller than, otherwise similar to, the bracts; ♀ bracts obtrullate, 5 mm. long, lobulate in the upper half, otherwise entire, pubescent, 1-flowered; bracteoles smaller than, otherwise similar to, the bracts.. Male flowers: pedicels 1 mm. long, pubescent; buds ovoid; calyx-lobes ovate, 2 mm. long, subcucullate, densely pubescent without, glabrous within, yellow; stamens 0.5 mm. long, filaments as long as the anthers; pistillode minute, triangular.. Female flowers: pedicels 1–2 mm. long; calyx-lobes 3, 2 mm. long and wide and suborbicular in outline at first, expanding to 7–8 mm. long and 10–11 mm. wide in fruit, and becoming transversely ovate in outline, with several lateral bipartite lobules on each side, pubescent and urticating without and within; ovary trilobate, 2 mm. diameter, densely pubescent; styles 3, 2.5 mm. long, united at the base, sparingly pubescent, the stigmas suberect, ± smooth, glabrous..
