An erect or ascending monoecious pubescent somewhat branched urticating subshrub perhaps not exceeding 20 cm. in height.. Petioles 2–6 mm. long; blade lanceolate, 3–4(–5) cm. long, 1–1.5 cm. wide, acute, serrate, truncate or shallowly cordate, thinly chartaceous, 3-nerved from the base, lateral nerves 5–6 pairs, scarcely prominent above, slightly so beneath, sparingly or evenly pubescent above and beneath, sometimes with stinging hairs on the margins.. Stipules ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm. long, sparingly pubescent or subglabrous.. Inflorescences leaf-opposed, 4–7 cm. long, the peduncles rather short, 2–4 mm. long, mostly or all ♂ with (0–)1–4 ♀ flowers at the base; axis densely pubescent; ♂ bracts ovate, 1.5 mm. long, subacute, entire, pubescent, 1-flowered; bracteoles lanceolate, 1.5 mm. long; ♀ bracts and bracteoles slightly larger than the ♂’s, otherwise similar.. Male flowers: pedicels 1 mm. long, pubescent; buds globose; calyx-lobes suborbicular, 1.5 mm. long and wide, subcucullate, evenly adpressed pubescent without, glabrous within; stamens 0.5 mm. long, the filaments very short; pistillode trifid, flat.. Female flowers: pedicels 1 mm. long, thicker than those of ♂, densely pubescent; calyx-lobes 3, suborbicular in outline, 1 mm. long and wide at first, later expanding to 7 mm. long and wide, with several lateral lanceolate lobules on each side, densely pubescent without and within at first, later becoming evenly so; ovary trilobate, 1 mm. diameter, densely pubescent; styles 3, 1 mm. long, united at the base, glabrous, the stigmas recurved, ± smooth.. Fruit trilobate, 3 mm. long, 7 mm. wide, smooth, evenly pubescent and beset with stinging hairs.. Mature seeds not known.
