Characteristics

Leaf blade (2)3–5 × 1.5–3 cm, ovate, subacute at the apex, shallowly denticulate on the margins, cordate at the base, chartaceous, 7(9)-nerved from the base; lateral nerves in 3–4 pairs, scarcely prominent above, prominent beneath, camptodromous; indumentum sparingly puberulous on both surfaces, and also hirsute along the midrib and main veins beneath.

Male flowers: pedicels 1 mm long; buds ovoid-subglobose; calyx lobes 1.5 × 1 mm, ovate, subacute, puberulous without, glabrous within, pale yellow; stamens 1 mm long; pistillode flat, 3-lobed, the lobes truncate at the apex.
Inflorescences erect, up to 17 cm high with peduncles up to 3 cm long, leaf-opposed or terminal; bracts 5 × 1 mm, linear-lanceolate, several flowered; bracteoles 1–3 mm long, linear.
Prostrate, sparingly-branched non-urticating perennial herb, dioecious; stems up to 50 cm long arising from a woody rootstock, pubescent and hispid.
Stipules 5 × 3 mm, ovate-lanceolate, occasionally somewhat falcate, entire.
