Characteristics

Evergreen or deciduous tree or shrub, 2-5 m high; branchlets and young leaves covered with rather long, dark brown hairs. Leaves opposite, simple, peltate, 75-160 x 15-70 mm, ovate or elliptic, entire, dark shiny green above, dark brown hairs on midrib below, base auriculate, apex acute. Inflorescences small, axillary heads. Flowers male or female, creamy green, yellow or orange; plants monoecious or dioecious. Flowering time Apr.-Aug. Fruit a capsule, up to 7 mm long; reddish brown.
