Characteristics

Leaves all similar, up to 7·5 × 0·9 cm., narrowly lanceolate, apex acute, sometimes subcaudate, regularly serrulate at the margin, subcontracted above the base and provided there with a pair of spreading, linear or linear-spathulate, obtuse auricles up to 7 × 2 mm., somewhat fleshy or membranous, glabrous or hairy on superior surface towards the base, sparsely setose beneath on the midrib, obsoletely penninerved; petiole up to 2 mm. long, setose.

Stem up to 90 cm., prostrate to erect, simple or with few, spreading branches, purplish, puberulous (hairs thin, curved, antrorse) and sparsely setose (setae up to 1·5 mm. long, not bulbous at the base, spreading, purplish towards the base, yellowish towards the apex).
Calyx sparsely and shortly setose and without hairs on the outside; tube c. 6 mm. long, whitish-pubescent inside in the lower 1/3; lobes 2·5–4 mm. long, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse.
Flowers 4–6 per raceme; peduncles 8–11 cm. long, glabrous or sparsely hairy; bracteoles c. 1·5 mm. long; pedicels up to 4·5 mm. long in fruit.
Ovary 3–4 mm. long, oblong; styles 7·5 mm. long, with the stigmas projecting beyond the anthers of the longer stamens.
Filaments of the longer stamens c. 8 mm. long, those of the shorter ones c. 6 mm. long; anthers 1·3–1·5 mm. long.
Capsule up to 4 × 0·15 cm., glabrous, deflexed; beak c. 2·5 mm. long.
Seeds 9–15 per capsule, c. 2·5 mm. long, oblong-obovoid.
Petals 22 × 8·5 mm., yellow.
