Characteristics

Shrublet up to 300 mm tall, well branched from the base, branches erect or decumbent, main ones 2.5-3 mm in diam. at the base, villous with patent eglandular hairs mostly 1-2.5 mm long, sometimes glabrescent, sometimes minutely glandular-puberulous below the inflorescence, leafy. Leaves opposite, bases connate, scarcely diminishing in size upwards, except for the uppermost pair, which may be much reduced orbracteate, blade 6-24 x 6-23 mm, broadly ovate, base abruptly contracted to a flat petiolar part 4-14 mm long, often half or equalling the length of the blade, upper margins with 2-5 pairs of coarse, ± obtuse teeth, both surfaces thinly villous, sometimes glabrescent, hairs up to 1.25-1.5 mm long especially on petiolar part, sparsely glandular-puberulous as well. Flowers many in rounded heads c. 10-20 mm in diam., not elongating in fruit, solitary at branch tips which are usually pedunculoid with a single pair of bracts or much reduced leaves. Bracts at base of inflorescence c. 5-8 x 0.5-1.5 mm, linear-lanceolate, adnate to pedicel only, villous, hairs up to 1.5 mm long. Pedicels up to 0.75 mm long. Calyx very obscurely bilabiate, tube none or up to 0.2 mm long, anticous lobes 3.75-7 x 0.4-0.75 mm, posticous lobes similar, villous with hairs up to 1.5 mm long, glandular-puberulous as well at base. Corolla tube 5-7 mm long, funnel-shaped, c. 2 mm across mouth, whole corolla minutely and sparsely glandular-puberulous outside in upper part, limb 5.5-8 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.5-3 x 1.75-3 mm, anticous lobe 2-3 x 1.6-2.75 mm, all lobes subrotund, posticous lip glabrous at base, orange there and down back of tube, rest of limb white or creamy-coloured. Stamens 4, posticous pair deep in tube, filaments decurrent to base, anthers 0.8-lmm long, anticous pair shortly exserted or in throat, anthers 0.5-0.75 mm long. Stigma exserted. Capsules c. 2.75 x 2 mm (few seen). Seeds c. 2-10 in each loculus, c. 0.75 x 0.6 mm, pallid amber sinuously wrinkled (only one seen).
