Erect subglabrous annual up to 60 cm. tall.. Stipules up to 3 cm. long, the free part about as long as the attached part, tapering gradually to a thread-like tip; petiole up to 6 cm. long, the free part in the upper leaves usually shorter than a leaflet; leaflets lanceolate to narrowly oblong, rounded or acute at the tip, up to 45 by 9 mm.; teeth small, subulate-tipped; main nerves 25–30 on each side, usually branched, rather curved, at ± 40° to the midrib.. Inflorescences subglobose, ±30-flowered, ± 2 cm. across; peduncle ±6 cm. long, pilose near the top; outer bracts greenish, stiff, broadly lanceolate with subulate tips, 5–10-nerved, up to 12 mm. long, sometimes toothed, forming an involucre; inner bracts linear-lanceolate, scarious, ± 6 mm. long; pedicels ± 2 mm. long.. Calyx-tube whitish, ± 30-veined, 3–4 mm. long, inflated and splitting irregularly in fruit; teeth narrowly triangular, tapering gradually to subulate tips, 7–8 mm. long, exceeding the purplish corolla.. Standard 9–10 mm. long.. Stamens ± 7 mm. long.. Ovules ±4.. Pod glabrous, ± 4 by 2 mm., asymmetric, the ventral suture bulged out beyond the base of the style.. Seeds 4, yellowish-brown, oblong, ±2 by 1–4 mm., the hilum at the end.
