Characteristics

Annual or possibly perennial subglabrous herb; stems erect, up to 27 cm. tall or, if procumbent, not rooting at the nodes.. Stipules under 1 cm. long, attached for half to two-thirds of their length, the free tips tapering gradually into long filiform points; petiole 1–5 cm. long; leaflets oblanceolate, acute or rarely rounded at the tip, up to 20 by 6 mm.; teeth fairly large; main nerves 5–7 on each side, at 20°–30° to the midrib.. Inflorescences 1–6-flowered; peduncle 1–4 cm. long; bracts minute; pedicel 1–2 mm. long.. Calyx sparingly pilose at the margin; tube 3–4 mm. long, 15–30-nerved, rather inflated but splitting down the upper side in fruit; teeth as long as or slightly longer than the tube, triangular, subulate at the tip.. Corolla purple; standard cuneate-obovate, 7–8 mm. long.. Stamens ±7 mm. long.. Ovules 5–9.. Pod glabrous, beaked, ±7–8 by 2·5 mm.. Seeds brown, oval-oblong, ±1·6 by 1 mm.; hilum at one end.
