Characteristics

Plants 120-350 mm high. Corm ± 40 mm diam.; tunics of densely matted fibres, with long collar. Stem usually with 2 or 3 short, suberect branches, 1.5-4.0 mm diam. Basal leaves 4 or 5, green at flowering, in a fan with longitudinally folded, overlapping sheaths, blades lanceolate, 80-250(-40) x 8-25 mm, acuminate, with 4 to 6 veins (not narrowed to a pseudopetiole below), firm-textured; cauline leaves 2 to 4, lowermost leaf-like but much smaller, upper 2 or 3 reduced and subulate. Spike moderately densely or laxly ± 6-to 12-flowered, 70-120 mm long, lateral spikes up to 5-flowered; bracts dry and brown, leathery, oblong, outer 8-12 mm long, acute or apiculate, inner slightly longer. Flowers zygomorphic, pale or creamy pink, lower 3 tepals with red median streak or line, unscented; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 8-10 mm long; tepals unequal, dorsal slightly larger, arched over stamens, oblanceolate-spathulate, clawed in lower half, 20-25 x 3-5 mm, obtuse or truncate-emarginate, other tepals suberect, 17-20 x 3-4 mm, lower 3 tepals joined at base for 2-5 mm. Filaments arcuate, later suberect, 12-14 mm long; anthers 5.0-5.5 mm long, yellow, with small bifid apiculus 0.5 mm long. Style 20-22 mm long, dividing opposite middle of anthers, branches 2.0-2.5 mm long. Capsules ovoid, inflated, 20-25 x 10-15 mm. Seeds unknown.
