Characteristics

Shrub 0.25–3 m high, often intricately-branched, greyish-pubescent with simple and stellate hairs on young stems, inflorescences and flowers; spines absent or present. Leaves: stipules triangular, 0.6–1.5 mm long, persistent; petiole 0.3–1 mm long; lamina narrowly obovate to obovate, (1.8–) 2.2–8 (–12) mm long, 1–3 (–4) mm wide, base cuneate, entire, flat to slightly recurved, apex obtuse to emarginate (rarely acute), recurved-apiculate, densely pubescent beneath, sparsely stellate-hairy above. Inflorescences few-flowered; bracts persistent. Pedicels 0.5–3 mm long. Flowers cream to yellow, densely pubescent. Hypanthium 0.9–1.2 mm diam. Sepals 0.8–1.3 mm long, caducous. Petals 0.5–0.8 mm long. Stamens 0.5–0.6 mm long. Ovary summit stellate-hairy; carpels 3; style 0.2–0.8 mm long. Fruit black or grey, 1.9–2.5 mm long; torus in the upper third. Seed 1.5–2 mm long.
