Characteristics

Shrub or small tree 1–10 m high, pilose or pubescent with rusty or greyish, simple and stellate hairs on stems, inflorescences and flowers. Leaves: stipules narrowly triangular, 2.5–8 mm long, persistent or deciduous; petiole 4–20 mm long; lamina ovate to broadly obovate, 15–130 mm long, 6–80 mm wide, base cuneate to obtuse, entire to dentate or sinuate-lobed, flat, apex acute to obtuse, straight, pubescent or pilose below, pubescent above when young, becoming glabrous to sparsely pubescent. Inflorescences many-flowered; bracts caducous. Pedicels 1.5–3.5 mm long. Flowers white to cream. Hypanthium 1–1.2 mm diam. Sepals 1.3–1.6 mm long, persistent or caducous. Petals 0.5–0.6 mm long. Stamens 0.4–0.5 mm long. Ovary summit stellate-pubescent; carpels 2–3; style 0.3–0.7 mm long. Fruit grey or black, 2–2.5 mm long; torus in the middle third. Seed 2.2–2.5 mm long.
