Characteristics

Shrub or small tree up to 4 m. tall; lateral shoots slow growing, with crowded internodes.. Leaf-lamina ovate to ovate-elliptic, up to 6 × 4.5 cm., generally puberulous with short stiff appressed setulose hairs on both surfaces and especially on the nerves beneath, apex rounded or emarginate, base broadly rounded to subcordate; petiole up to 0.8 cm. long.. Inflorescence an axillary or terminal congested false raceme; peduncle short, up to 0.4 cm. long; bracts subulate, up to 0.2 cm. long, puberulous; pedicels up to 1.3 cm. long.. Flowers white or creamy-white.. Calyx ± 0.3 cm. long, tomentellous, lobed to ± one-third.. Petals linear to linear-spathulate, 1.5–1.9 cm × 0.2–0.3 cm., tomentellous outside.. Staminal tube 0.7–1.2 cm. long, expanded at the apex, bearded at the throat with long hairs arising from the filaments and from the uppermost part of the staminal tube, otherwise glabrous inside, with a few scattered hairs outside; appendages deeply 2-fid for more than half of length, alternating with anthers; not fused at the base, ± 0.35 cm. long, glabrous outside.. Ovary 10–11-locular, tomentellous; style 1.4–1.7 cm. long, sometimes puberulous at the base, otherwise glabrous; style-head globose-cylindric, its base exserted ± 0.7 cm. beyond staminal-tube..
