Treelet 1–2 m. tall.. Leaf-lamina elliptic or oblanceolate-elliptic, up to 21 × 10 cm., glabrous beneath except for inconspicuous tufts of hairs in the nerve-axils and a few scattered hairs on the main nerves, apex acuminate, base cuneate; margin slightly to distinctly repand (exceptionally deeply sinuate); petiole up to 0.5 cm. long.. Inflorescence an axillary congested cyme or false raceme with 7–15 flowers; peduncle 0.2–0.4 cm. long; bracts ± 0.1 cm. long; pedicels 1–1.2 cm. long.. Calyx ± 0.2 cm. long, denticulate, minutely puberulous outside.. Petals ± 1 × 0.25 cm., minutely puberulous outside.. Staminal tube ± 0.9 cm. long, expanded distally, glabrous inside except for a ring of hairs 0.3 cm. below the insertion of the anthers; appendages fused to form a subentire frill completely concealing the anthers.. Ovary 5–6-locular, glabrous; style 1.2 cm. long; style-head globose, exserted 0.3–0.4 cm. beyond apex of staminal tube.. Capsule depressed-globose, ± 1.5 × 1.8 cm., shallowly sulcate, thinly woody, glabrous.. Seeds ± 0.8 × 0.45 cm., black; aril red.
