Characteristics

Shrub or small tree up to 7 m. tall, sometimes scrambling.. Leaves sometimes crowded at the ends of slow-growing short shoots but usually widely spaced on long shoots; lamina coriaceous, ovate to lanceolate-elliptic, usually less than 7.5 × 4.5 cm., lower surface glabrous except for tufts of hairs in the axils of the secondary nerves, apex shortly and bluntly subacuminate, base cuneate; petiole up to 1.5 cm. long.. Inflorescence subfasciculate, 1–6-flowered, sessile or subsessile; bracts squamiform, 0.2 cm. long; pedicels 0.7–1.8 cm. long.. Flowers white fading to creamy yellow.. Calyx 0.4 cm. long, denticulate or shallowly lobed, densely puberulous.. Petals linear, (4.5–)5–6.6 × 0.15–0.2 cm., puberulous outside.. Staminal tube (3.8)–4.5–5 cm. long, cylindric, glabrous in the upper part inside, but with a few longish irregular retrorse hairs in the lower part; appendages in pairs alternating with the anthers, free or slightly fused at the base, 0.35–0.4 cm. long.. Ovary 10–12-locular, tomentellous; style 5–6.5 cm. long, glabrous; style-head conical-cylindric, tapering from a broad base..
