Characteristics

Perennials with usually much branched erect stems up to 1 m high and covered with longer or shorter phyllopodia which are rarely replaced by a peeling bark. Leaves linear, 30-70(-90) x 2-4 mm, slightly constricted towards base, acute or cuspidate, terete or slightly grooved above, glabrous, grey-green to greyish brown. Inflorescence a thyrse with several straight monochasia often arising from almost the same point, glandular-pubescent; peduncle (0.2-)0.3-0.45 m long; pedicels (5-)7-12 mm long. Calyx 10-12 mm long, glandular-tomentose; lobes triangular, acute, yellow. Corolla glandular-pubescent, sulphur-yellow; tube cylindrical to slightly widened at mouth, 17-25 mm long, inside with fine hairs where filaments are fused to tube; lobes 14-18 mm long, recurved. Anthers 3-3.4 mm long. Squamae transversely oblong to almost square, 0.6-1.1 x 1-1.2 mm, slightly emarginate, fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: (December) January (February).
