Characteristics

Plants perennial, with 2-8 erect branches 10-20 mm high from a caudiciform subterraneous base, 1-3 cm in diameter; bark of caudex light maroon, peeling in yellowish grey flakes. Branches grey-green, up to 8 mm in diameter; phyllopodia green, strigose. Leaves dorsiventrally compressed, oblanceolate-ovate to ovate-spathulate, 2.3-3.8 cm long, 1-3 cm in diameter, pubescent patent, cuneate at base, apex acute to somewhat obtuse. Inflorescence a flat-topped thyrse with 1-3 monochasia each bearing 1-3 flowers; peduncle 3-6 cm long, 2-3 mm broad at the base, covered with spreading gland-tipped hairs, 1 mm long; bracts subulate, 5-8 mm long, 1 mm broad, becoming deciduous during anthesis; pedicels 5-7 mm long, pubescent. Calyx covered with long gland-tipped hairs 1 mm long; lobes triangular, acuminate, 5 mm long, 1.5 mm broad at base. Corolla tubular, 15 mm long, 4 mm broad at base, gradually expanding to 6 mm, pubescent, light green on outside, yellow-green on inside; lobes white, 8-11 mm long, lanceolate, spreading and becoming recurved, glabrous, pubescent towards base; margin ciliate. Stamens white, fused in lower quarter; filaments pilose, 13 mm long, apices of filaments recurved; anthers dorsifixed, versatile; pollen yellow. Squamae square, hyalescent, 0.75 x 0.75 mm, emarginate.
