Characteristics

Perennials with much branched tuberous base with short erect branches up to 40 mm long with old leaves remaining attached to short pale phyllopodia. Leaves oblanceolate to obovate, spathulate, 15-35(-60) x 5-10(-20) mm, with markedly cuneate base, acute to obtuse, dorsiventrally compressed and usually with a groove above main vein, covered with scattered glandular hairs, green to grey-green. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1-3(-5) monochasia each with 1-3 flowers, glandular-pubescent; peduncle 0.15-0.25 m long, pale brown; pedicels 4-8(-12) mm long. Calyx 4-5.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent; lobes triangular-lanceolate, acute. Corolla with few scattered glandular hairs outside; tube funnel-shaped, 12-13.5(-14) mm long, glabrous except for few hairs where filaments are fused to tube, pale green to yellowish green; lobes 6-8 mm long, recurved or recoiling, pink often with darker striations. Anthers 0.8-1 mm long. Squamae square, 0.8-1 mm long and broad, emarginate, fleshy, pale yellow.

Like T. ventricosus but branches 10-50 mm tall, without a tuber and with slender and longer phyllopodia, leaves more densely glandular-tomentose, corolla tube 12-14 mm long and not swollen in middle, lobes 6-10 mm long, pink with maroon streaks.
