Characteristics

Perennials with short sparsely branched underground tubers producing one to few erect to decumbent, smooth stems rarely up to 0.2 m long, with almost white flaking bark or peeling brown bark on tubers. Leaves linear, oblanceolate or rarely obovate, (10-)15-40(-55) x (2-)5-12(-15) mm, cuneate to subpetiolate, usually obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened but with a groove above main vein, densely covered with large glandular hairs, green. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1-4 monochasia, each with 1.2(-3) flowers, glandular-tomentose; peduncle 0.1-0.2 m long, pale brown; pedicels 6-14 mm long. Calyx (2-)3-5 mm long, glandular-tomentose, green; lobes triangular-lanceolate, acute. Corolla glandular-pubescent outside; tube cylindrical, 6-9 mm long, with few scattered hairs in throat and where filaments are fused to tube, yellowish green to pale yellow; lobes 3-5 mm long, pink to almost white. Anthers 0.8-1 mm long. Squamae oblong, 1.3-1.5 x 0.3-0.4 mm, usually slightly emarginate, fleshy, yellow.
