Characteristics

Perennials with irregular tuberous base usually with a few erect branches up to 0.25 m high with remains of old leaves attached to decurrent leaf bases (rarely phyllopodia) white to pale grey with dark grey striations on younger branches. Leaves linear, (20-)30-50(-70) x 2-5 mm, acute, terete or grooved above, glandular-pubescent to glabrous, usually greyish green. Inflorescence a thyrse with 1-5 monochasia, each with 1-3 flowers, glandular-pubescent; peduncle 0.15-0.3(-0.35) m long, brown; pedicels 5-12 mm long. Calyx 4-5(-8) mm long, glandular-tomentose, yellowish green; lobes triangular, sharply acute. Corolla glandular-tomentose outside; tube cylindrical and slightly bulging around middle, 12-15 mm long, glabrous inside except for fine hairs mainly where filaments are fused to tube, yellowish green below and with reddish brown veins above; lobes 5-6(-7) mm long, recurved at apex, pale brown with darker veins. Anthers 2-2.5 mm long, brown. Squamae oblong, 1.2-1.5 x 0.3-0.5 mm, rarely emarginate, slightly fleshy, pale yellow. Flowering period: (November) December.
