Characteristics

Perennials with irregular tuberous base producing several branches up to 0.25 m long and 8-20 mm in diameter, torulose due to swollen nodes with leaf scars, at first with dark brown bark later white and flaking. Leaves ovate-spathulate, 20-35(-40) x 5-15(-21) mm, cuneate to petiolate, with obtuse to rounded apices usually recurved, dorsiventrally flattened to slightly grooved above main vein, glandular-pubescent, grey-green to blue-green. Inflorescence a thyrse with 2-5 monochasia, each with 1-3 flowers, glandular-pubescent; peduncle 5-81 mm long, brown; pedicels 2-5(-8) mm long. Calyx 2.5-3.5 mm long, glandular-pubescent, yellowish green; lobes triangular, sharply acute. Corolla glandular-pubescent outside; tube cylindrical, 18-23 mm long, with few club-shaped hairs on inside mainly where filaments are fused to tube, yellowish green; lobes 4-5 mm long recurved, pale yellow. Anthers c. 1.8 mm long. Squamael almost square, 1-1.2 x 0.9-1 mm, emarginate, slightly fleshy, white.
