Characteristics

Leaf blades 4–12 × 2–5.5 cm, oblong-elliptic, ± rounded at apex and base, entire, chartaceous, sparingly ferrugineous-pubescent beneath at first, later glabrescent, otherwise glabrous; midrib bifurcate just before the apex; lateral nerves in 9–12 pairs, scarcely prominent above or beneath, the lower camptodromous, the upper brochidodromous or else all brochidodromous, tertiary nerves often indistict.

Male flowers: calyx lobes 5–6, 1.5 × 1 mm, triangular, acute, glabrous, yellowish-green; stamens 6 with white filaments 1 mm long and pale yellow anthers 1 mm long; pistillode 2 mm high, unequally trilobed, the lobes somewhat foliaceous.
Female flower: calyx 4 mm in diameter, shallowly 5(6)-lobed, the lobes minutely crenellate, sparingly ciliate; ovary 6 × 4 mm, ellipsoid, 3(4)-locular, glabrous; styles 3(4), 5 × 3 mm, irregularly 5–6-partite, the segments crenellate.
Male peduncles 7–10(20) mm long, bracteate; bracts of main inflorescence 11–12, 5–9 × 3–6 mm, obovate-suborbicular, glabrous, pale yellowish-green; head of male flowers 8.5 mm in diameter.
Fruits 1.4–1.5 × 1.2–1.3 cm, ellipsoid-subglobose, smooth, glabrous, 3(4)-seeded. Mesocarp thin.
Female peduncles as in the male; bracts 7, otherwise resembling the male.
Pyrenes 3(4), c. 1 × 0.7 cm, carinate, apiculate apically and basally.
Young shoots densely ferrugineous-floccose-pubescent.
Inflorescences borne among or just below the leaves.
Leaves long-petiolate, the petioles 2–7 cm long.
A small deciduous tree up to 7.5 m high.
Bark light brown, slightly gnarled.
