Liane, straggling or scandent shrub or small tree 1.5–6(–12) m. tall; bark dark, lenticellate; branches at first densely covered with ferruginous stellate hairs, later glabrescent or glabrous.. Leaf-blades oblong, obovate-oblong, oblong-elliptic or oblanceolate, 3.5–13.5(–16) cm. long, (1.5–)2–6(–8) cm. wide, obtuse to shortly acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate, rounded or slightly cordate at the base, subcoriaceous, glabrous (save on nerves) or sparsely pubescent above, sparsely to very densely covered beneath particularly on the main nerves with long-rayed stellate or fasciculate hairs which often do not appear to be stellate; nerves impressed above and prominent beneath; petiole 3–8 mm. long, ferruginous pubescent.. Flowers often with fruity smell, solitary or in 2–3-flowered cymes, terminal or extra-axillary; pedicels 0–8 mm. long; bracteoles ovate-orbicular, tomentellous.. Calyx cupular in bud, with a small triangular opening at the apex, splitting ± irregularly into 3 lobes 4–8(–10) mm. long at anthesis, rusty-pubescent on both surfaces..
