Highly localised; found growing on trees in humid forests and on rocks among low shrubs on slopes near streams. This large orchid is frequently seen perched high in large trees in vine forests and gallery forests, forming tangled clumps with its thick, white roots extending a long way down the host's trunk. It has also been found growing in full sun on large granite boulders and other rock outcrops.
