Characteristics

Herbaceous, with several simple, leafy, subwoody annual stems up to 50 cm high from a perennial stock. Leaves sessile, up to 60 x 5 mm, linear-oblong, apex obtuse, apiculate, margins entire, glabrous. Heads solitary, terminal, broadly campanulate, up to 3 cm across. Involucral bracts elliptic-oblong, obtuse, equalling the pappus. Flowers purple. Achenes c. 5 mm long, pilose; pappus bristles barbellate, the outer much shorter than the inner.
