Shrub, climber or small tree (?) 1.5-6 m tall; stems shortly pubescent with simple hairs.. Leaves petiolate, ovate to elliptic, 5.2-11.5 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, base cuneate to rounded, remotely sinuate-denticulate, shortly acuminate, apiculate, thinly pubescent; petiole 0.5-1 cm long.. Capitula in rather copious terminal and upper axillary compound corymbiform cymes; stalks of individual capitula ascending-pubescent; involucre cylindrical, 8-10 mm long; phyllaries 4-seriate, oblong, the outer shortly pubescent, darker towards the apex, acute to apiculate, the inner obtuse to rounded, purple-tinged, glabrous except at apex, 6.5-8.3 mm long.. Corolla dark lilac or mauve, 8.7-9.5 mm long, lobes 2.5-2.7 mm long, glabrous.. Achenes 3.3 mm long, 5-ribbed, glabrous; outer pappus of lanceolate scales, 0.8-1.3 mm long, inner pappus white, 6.5-7.2 mm long.
