Characteristics

Weak-stemmed shrub 1.8-3 m tall; stems shortly pubescent with simple or incipiently asymmetrically T-shaped hairs.. Leaves sessile, elliptic, often somewhat panduriform, 3-11 cm long, 1-4 cm wide, base amplexicaul and often somewhat auriculate, margins obscurely to coarsely serrate, apex acuminate, apiculate, dark green, rather densely hispidulous and glabrescent above, densely to thinly pubescent or hispid beneath.. Capitula few in lax scorpioid cymes; stalks of individual capitula ascending-pubescent; involucre 12-16 mm long, the outer phyllaries spreading to recurved; phyllaries in several series, lanceolate, 13-16.5 mm long, acute to pungent, erect, the upper part of outer and median phyllaries appendage-like, lanceolate, 4-8 mm long, 1-1.2 mm wide, 4-8 times as long as wide.. Corolla mauve or pale blue, 10.5-13.5 mm long, lobes 2.5-3 mm long, glabrous.. Achenes 3.2-4 mm long, 4-ribbed, glabrous; outer pappus of lanceolate scales, 1.3-2.2 mm long, inner pappus straw-coloured, 7-9 mm long.
