Phyllaries numerous, many-seriate, coriaceous, purple-tinged towards the apex, brownish-lanate to densely puberulous outside, or somewhat glabrescent, margins finely araneose-ciliate; the outer phyllaries from c. 5 mm. long, narrowly triangular to ovate-lanceolate, tapering to an acute often acuminate apex; the middle phyllaries to c. 5 mm. wide, oblong-lanceolate and acuminate, mucronate or pungent-aristate; the inner phyllaries narrower, to c. 22 mm. long, linear, tapering to a fine point Corollas mauve, 18–22 mm. long, narrowly tubular in lower c. two-thirds, widening to a campanulate limb with lobes 5–6 mm. long.

Leaves many, ascending, sessile, 8–25 x 1–2(5) cm., linear-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, ± narrowly tapering-acute at apex, attenuate to a narrowly cuneate base, margins entire to remotely repand-crenulate, lamina coriaceous, glabrous or minutely sparsely puberulous, nervation laxly reticulate, slightly raised.
