Characteristics

Woody herb or weak shrub 0.8-2 m tall; stems dull brown with pale lenticels, densely ascending-pubescent with simple hairs.. Leaves sessile or subsessile, elliptic and slightly pandurate, 4.5-15.5 cm long, 1.2-6 cm wide, narrowed towards a truncate or cordate base, margins shallowly sinuate-serrate, ± acuminate, apiculate, scattered-hispid and glabrescent above, thinly finely pubescent and ± glabrescent beneath.. Capitula in terminal somewhat scorpioid compound corymbiform cymes; involucre ovoid with recurving upper phyllaries, 7-13 mm long; phyllaries green, tinged dark purple in upper part, lanceolate, acuminate-pungent, recurving, 8.2-10 mm long; the upper part of outer and median phyllaries appendage-like, ovate, spreading or recurving, purplish or green, 3.5-5.5 mm long, 0.4-1.2 mm wide, 3.8-11 times as long as wide.. Corolla white or cream, 7-10 mm long, lobes 1.7-2 mm long, glabrous.. Achenes (immature) 2.4-3.3 mm long, 4-5-ribbed, glabrous except for a few ascending hairs on ribs; outer pappus 1-1.2 mm long, inner pappus tawny, 5-6.5 mm long.
