Perennial herb 15–45 cm tall; stems several from a tough root, decumbent then ascending, to 45 cm long, sparsely ascending-pubescent with simple hairs.. Leaves rather crowded, sessile, oblong or oblanceolate to linear, 1–4.5 cm long, 0.1–0.7 cm wide, base attenuate, apex obtuse, apiculate, thinly pubescent, ± glabrescent above.. Capitula in small lax terminal corymbiform cymes; stalks of individual capitula ascending-pubescent, bracteolate in upper part; involucre hemispherical, 5–7 mm long; phyllaries 3–4-seriate, lanceolate, 2–6 mm long, acute to obtuse, thinly ascending-sericeous, purplish on midrib towards the apex and on margins.. Corolla purple or mauve, 4.7–6 mm long, lobes 1.7–2.3 mm long, with stiff apical or subapical hairs.. Achenes 1.7–2.2 mm long, 4–6-ribbed, shortly ascending-pubescent; outer pappus of oblong or ovate to lanceolate laciniate scales 0.5–0.7 mm long, inner pappus 3–4 mm long, pinkish turning white.
