Perennial herb, usually glabrous; stems contracted, erect; stolons well-developed. Leaves tufted; lamina broadly ovate, obovate or rhombic, 5–15 mm long, 3–10 (–15) mm wide, apex obtuse, margins with 1–few coarse rounded teeth, base cuneate, tapering to petiole; petiole 0.5–2 cm long, narrowly winged; stipules free, linear-lanceolate, 1–3 (–7) mm long, glandular-denticulate, laciniate. Flower-scapes 0.5–2.5 (–5) cm long, usually shorter than the leaves; bracteoles mostly above the middle. Sepals lanceolate, 1.5–3.5 mm long, acute, basal appendages small. Petals 2–3 (–4) mm long, scarcely exceeding the sepals, not or hardly reflexed, concolorous, cream, often with a brown or purplish tinge towards the centre; anterior petal linear-oblong, c. 1 mm wide, without a spur; lateral petals entire, bearded. Capsule ovoid, 3–5 mm long. Seeds ovoid, 1–2 mm long, blackish at maturity.
Grows in a range of environments from wettish heath, sedgelands, open forest, to dry woodland, often in sand or skeletal soils.
