Characteristics

Perennial herb; stems contracted or elongating to c. 8 cm, erect; stolons well-developed. Leaves tufted or cauline when stems developed, sparsely to densely pilose, occasionally glabrous; lamina reniform to orbicular, subreniform, or ovate, 5.5–23 mm long, 7–27 mm wide, apex acute, obtuse or rounded, occasionally truncate, margins with few to numerous prominent but shallow teeth, basal sinus narrow to broad, the base occasionally truncate; petiole 5–23 cm long; stipules narrowly ovate or lanceolate, 3–5 (–7) mm long, irregularly glandular-denticulate, free. Flower-scapes 2.5–9 cm long, usually pilose; bracteoles often above middle. Sepals lanceolate, 4.5–5 mm long, acute, basal appendages small. Petals 5–9 (–13) mm long, concolourous or faintly 2-coloured, pale blue-violet in distal half grading to white in basal half, apex often very pale or white; anterior petal obovate to oblong, 3–4 mm wide, emarginate or entire, with 3 prominent central parallel veins, rarely anastomosing, not spurred; lateral petals entire, twisted through 90 degrees, densely bearded in basal half. Capsule ovoid, 5–6 mm long; seeds 1–1.2 mm long, shiny or dull brown, often with pale mottling.
