Characteristics

Perennial herb, glabrous to hispid-pubescent; stems contracted, erect; stolons well-developed. Leaves tufted; lamina broadly ovate to rhomboid, 5–15 (–20) mm long, 7–20 (–30) mm wide, apex obtuse to subacute, margins with few to numerous coarse teeth, base broadly cuneate to almost truncate; petiole 1–5 (–8) cm long; stipules linear-lanceolate, 2–5 mm long, glandular-denticulate, free. Flower-scapes 3– 8 (–12) cm long, mostly exceeding leaves, sometimes shorter; bracteoles near the middle. Sepals lanceolate, 2–5 mm long, acute, basal appendages small. Petals 4–7 (–10) mm long, concolourous, pale to dark blue-mauve, sometimes white at base; anterior petal narrowly oblong to obovate, 2–4 (–5) mm wide, usually emarginate, not spurred; lateral petals entire, not or hardly twisted, bearded or glabrous. Capsule ovoid, 4–8 mm long; seeds c. 1–2 mm long, slightly glossy, dark reddish brown to black.
