Perennial herb; stems contracted or elongating to c. 40 cm, erect or scandent; stolons well-developed. Leaves tufted or cauline, glabrous; lamina broadly ovate to crescent-shaped or broadly subreniform, (4–) 6–10 (–15) mm long, (5–) 10–25 (–38) mm wide, usually 2–4 times wider than long, apex truncate to broadly rounded, sometimes obtuse, margins with few to numerous obscure teeth, the apical tooth not larger than lateral teeth, base usually truncate, occasionally subreniform or somewhat tapering; petiole 2–11 cm long; stipules narrowly triangular, 3–5 (–7) mm long, irregularly glandular-denticulate, free. Flower-scapes 5–13 cm long, exceeding leaves; bracteoles near middle. Sepals lanceolate, 3–5 mm long, acute, basal appendages small. Petals 5–8 mm long, concolourous, pale mauve-blue, sometimes white at base; anterior petal narrowly oblong to ovate, 3–4 mm wide, usually emarginate, not spurred; lateral petals entire, usually twisted through 90 degrees, bearded or glabrous. Capsule ovoid, 5–7 mm long; seeds 1.5–1.7 mm long, glossy purplish-black.
