Characteristics

Leafless monoecious shrubs up to 1 m. or more long, often pendulous with age; internodes of distal branches 10–25 mm. long, 1–2 mm. wide, essentially rounded.. Bracteal cups of both staminate and pistillate flowers essentially sessile.. Both staminate and pistillate flowers borne singly and sessile.. Staminate flowers often uncommon (less than 10% ) or seemingly absent at certain periods; anthers forming a central porate synandrium not adnate to the tepals.. Style not markedly differentiated; stigma rounded, at the summit of the upward-sloping ovary.. Berries orange, subpedicellate (less than 1 mm. long, sometimes obscured by the bracteal cup), elliptic-orbicular, 5 mm. high, generally smooth; tepalar ring-scar 2.5 mm. in diameter..
