Leafless dioecious relatively stout but small, 30–50 cm. high, erect coarse open shrubs with all branches rounded; internodes of distal branches 20–30 mm. long, 3–4 mm. wide.. Bracteal cups of pistillate flowers sessile.. Staminate flowers in triads.. Pistillate flowers borne singly and sessile in the bracteal cup (as revealed by the fruit).. Style indistinct; stigma minute, emerging directly from the summit of the ovary.. Berry sessile, rotund, 5 mm. high, 6 mm. in diameter, carmine red; tepalar ring-scar 3 mm. in diameter.
