Characteristics

Leafy dioecious shrubs; stems erect and then pendent, up to 1 m. long; internodes of distal branches 25–35 mm. long, 2–3 mm. wide, distinctly flattened.. Leaves at only some nodes (sometimes deciduous), obovate-elliptic, somewhat falcate, 30–45(–60) mm. long, 10–15(–25) mm. wide, apically rounded-obtuse, basally cuneate, 3(–5)-veined; petiole indistinct.. Bracteal cups on short peduncles 1–2 mm. long.. Staminate and pistillate flowers sessile.. Staminate flowers in triads (rarely more).. Pistillate flowers borne singly.. Style apparently indistinct; stigma rounded on the elevated summit of the ovary.. Berries densely tuberculate and moderately to strongly turbinate when young, but becoming oblong when older (mature fruit unknown, but more than 4 mm. high).. Fig. 3/13 (p. 8).
