Characteristics

Leafless, monoecious, minute herbs, mature shoots (including the terminal inflorescence) c. 3 mm high; the apparently single internode bearing a terminal and often 2-3 lateral, peduncled dichasia. Dichasia with central flowers staminate, lateral pistillate. Berries elliptic-rounded, 7-8 mm high, developing a pedicel c. 2 mm long at maturity, smooth, bright orange; crown-like sepals often persistent to maturity; stigma caducous. Flowering in June and July, possibly longer.
