Characteristics

Leafy, monoecious shrubs of small to moderate size, mostly less than 0.5 m high, often forming dense, rounded clusters. Stems rounded, often with swollen nodes and shortened internodes; basal internodes of young branches 8-15(-20) x2 mm. Leaves mostly obovate-rounded, 12-17 x 8-12 mm, rounded apically, cuneate into the base; petiole 2-3 mm long. Dichasia with central flower mostly staminate, lateral pistillate, or with all flowers the same sex. Berries elliptic, 3-4 mm high, sessile, warty when young, less so at maturity, truncate apically, dull orange; style persistent. Flowering in March and April, but possibly continuously or sporadically throughout the year.
