Viscum triflorum Dc.

Species

Angiosperms > Santalales > Santalaceae > Viscum

Characteristics

Leafy, monoecious shrubs of relatively small size, usually no more than 0.5 m high, often forming rounded, yellow-green masses with elongated, somewhat delicate branch-lets. Stems rounded; younger branches 6-ribbed and somewhat flattened; older branches rounded; basal internodes of younger branches (10-)15-20(-25) x 1.0-1.5 mm; nodes often dilated. Leaves obovate-elliptic, 18-25(-30) x 8-13 mm, mostly rounded-obtuse apically, cuneate into the base, conspicuously 3(-5)-nerved from the base, yellowish green, relatively thin, not as coriaceous as many Visca, margin often undulate or crisped; petiole rather indistinct when merging into blade, c. 3 mm long. Dichasia with central flower mostly staminate, lateral pistillate, or with all flowers the same sex, solitary in axils with a narrow elongate peduncle 2-3 mm long, 0.5 mm or less wide. Berries ellipsoid-globose, 4-5 mm long, essentially sessile, smooth, white; sepals and style often persistent. Flowering in March (possibly sporadically through much of the year).
More
Leafy monoecious small yellow-green globose shrubby clusters up to 50 cm. high; internodes of distal branches somewhat flattened and delicate, 6-ribbed, (10–)15–20(–25) mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide; older branches rounded.. Leaves rather variable, obovate-elliptic, 18–25(–30) mm. long, 8–13 mm. wide, rounded-obtuse apically, basally cuneate, conspicuously 3(–5)-nerved from the base, relatively thin and less coriaceous than in many species of Viscum, margin often somewhat crisped; petiole indistinct, ± 3 mm. long.. Bracteal cups narrowly pedunculate, 2–3 mm. long, up to 0.5 mm. in diameter.. Dichasia with the central flower staminate and the lateral flowers pistillate, or with all the flowers of the same sex, solitary in the axils.. Style present, but minute; stigma not expanded.. Berries ellipsoid-globose, 4–5 mm. high, smooth, white, ± sessile; tepals (at least some) persistent in fruit, tepalar ring-scar 0.5–1 mm. in diameter.. Fig. 3/1–6 (p. 8).
Leafy, monoecious, small, yellow-green, globose clusters <0.5 m high; internodes of distal branches somewhat flattened and delicate, 6-ribbed, (10)15-20(25) x 1-1.5 mm, older branches rounded. Leaves rather variable, 18-25(30) x 8-13 mm, obovate-elliptic, rounded to obtuse apically, basally cuneate, conspicuously 3(5)-nerved from the base, relatively thin and less coriaceous than many species of the genus, margin often somewhat crisped; petiole indistinct (c. 3 mm long). Bracteal cups narrowly pedunculate, 2-3 x <0.5 mm. Dichasia with the central flower staminate and the lateral flowers pistillate, or with all the flowers of the same sex, solitary in the axils. Style present, but minute; stigma not expanded. Berries white, ± sessile, 4-5 mm in diameter, ellipsoid-globose, smooth. Perianth segments (at least some) persistent in fruit; ring scar left by perianth 0.5-1 mm in diameter.
Leafy, monoecious, small, often globose, hemiparasitic shrub, 0.3-0.5 m high, yellow-green; internodes somewhat flattened and delicate, 6-ribbed; older branches rounded. Leaves obovate-elliptic or very variable, relatively thin, not very coriaceous, conspicuously 3(-5)-nerved from base, margins often crisped. Dichasia with central flower staminate, lateral ones pistillate, or often with all flowers of the same gender, in axils, with a narrow stalk. Flowering time Mar., but possibly sporadic throughout year. Fruit an essentially sessile, ellipsoid-globose berry, white, smooth; sepals and style persistent.
Leaves rather variable, 18–25(30) × 8–13 mm, obovate-elliptic, rounded to obtuse apically, basally cuneate, conspicuously 3(5)-nerved from the base, relatively thin and less coriaceous than many species of the genus, margin often somewhat crisped; petiole indistinct (c. 3 mm long).
Leafy, monoecious shrub, up to 500 mm tall, parasitic on species of Rapanea, Cassipourea and Syzygium. Leaves yellowish green, thin, usually with an undulate margin, distinctly petiolate. Berries smooth, sessile-subsessile, white at maturity. Flowers greenish yellow.
