Characteristics

Shrub with unifoliolate long-petioled leaves, terminally arranged on long and short shoots. Inflorescence axillary, few flowered. Sepals and petals 5, with dark glandular dots and streaks. Stamens 10; filaments glabrous, free; anthers ovoid, ± apiculate. Carpel solitary, densely pilose; stigma subcapitate. Ovules affixed to ventral suture in a median position. Fruit a flattened ± ellipsoid follicle, tapering at each end; pericarp with thin glabrous outer wall, and thicker cartilaginous inner wall. Seed ovoid, hilum lateral towards base, series of small fimbriate processes present at base (see note, page 9 and Fig. 3/12, 3/12a).
