Shrub 2.4–3 m. or tree 8–10 m. tall; bark grey-brown, smooth; innovations grey-tomentose; branches slender, 4-angled, densely spreading pubescent with brown hairs, at length ± glabrous.. Leaves (3–)5-foliolate; leaflets elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, 1.2–17 cm. long, 1.5–6 cm. wide, acuminate or less often rounded at the apex, acute to attenuate at the base, slightly scabrid above, densely pubescent with brown hairs beneath, longer on main venation, glandular; petioles 2.5–9 cm. long; petiolules ± 0–2.3 mm. long.. Inflorescences short, axillary near the apices of the branchlets, 2–3(–5) cm. long, 2 cm. wide, several-flowered; peduncles 1–1.2 cm. long, brown pubescent; pedicels filiform, 1.5–6 mm. long.. Calyx campanulate, 1.5–2 mm. long, shallowly toothed.. Inflorescences axillary or sometimes appearing terminal, of short slender few-flowered panicles, 1–5 cm long, creamy tomentose; peduncles spreading, sometimes horizontally, 1–1.4 cm long, pedicels filiform, 1.5–6 mm long; bracteoles 1–5 mm long, linear.
Straggling shrub to 3 m or tree to 12 m tall with upper branches scandent; bark fissured, grey-brown; older stems grey-brown tomentose; young stems 4-angled toward the apex, pale yellow tomentose.
Drupe 0.5–0.7 × 0.4–0.6 cm, obovoid-spherical, black at maturity; fruiting calyx thinly saucer-shaped, pubescent, gland-dotted.
Calyx campanulate, 4-toothed, gland-dotted, pubescent, accrescent in fruit; tube c. 1.5 mm long; lobes 0.3 mm long, erect.
Ovary globose, gland-dotted at rounded apex, glabrous; style c. 2 mm long.
Stamens clearly exserted from corolla tube; filaments glabrous.
Flowers actinomorphic, c. 5 mm long, aromatic.
