Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Campanulaceae > Wahlenbergia

Characteristics

Annual herb, shortly hirsute; hairs often somewhat retrorse. Stems usually many, decumbent, up to 3-13 cm long, ± dichotomously branched, from a taproot. Leaves alternate, linear to very narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate, up to 3.2-9 mm long, 1.2-1.6 mm wide, acute, shortly hirsute mainly beneath; margin cartilaginous, sparsely denticulate; midvein protruding beneath. Inflorescence lax, frondose, ± monochasial; pedicels up to 3-7 mm long, shortly hirsute. Hypanthium (4-)8-nerved, shortly hirsute. Calyx-lobes (3-)4(-5), 1.0-3.6 mm long, usually ± unequal, one often rudimentary, ± oblanceolate, denticulate, shortly hirsute mainly inside. Corolla 2-2.6 mm long, pale blue, shortly (3-)4-lobed, shortly hirsute or glabrescent outside; tube 1.6-2 mm long. Stamens (3-)4; filament-bases linear, glabrous or ciliate; anthers 0.7-0.8 mm long. Ovary subinferior, 2(-3)-locular. Style shorter than the corolla, not thickened in the upper part, eglandular, glabrous below; lobes 2(-3), ± 0.6 mm long. Capsule almost spherical, 2(-3)-Iocular, (4-)8-nerved; valves short. Seeds elliptic in outline, ± irregularly angular, 0.3-0.4 mm long, sometimes narrowly winged, almost smooth.
