Characteristics

Leaves up to 40 x 10 mm., alternate, sessile to subpetiolate, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, acute to obtuse with attenuate base, sparsely hirsute; margin incrassate, almost entire, very shallowly denticulate; all leaves of c. the same size and shape, the upper ones forming a sort of involucre.

Corolla c. 4 mm. long, blue, split almost to the base into lanceolate lobes, glabrous outside, puberulous inside near the base; tube c. 0·5 mm. long.
Ovary 3–locular, style longer than the corolla, thickened in the upper part, eglandular, with long hairs below; lobes 3, c. 0·2 mm. long.
Stamens with filament–bases abruptly dilated, ciliate; anthers c. 1–6 mm. long.
Inflorescences terminal, dense, capitate; flowers sessile.
Hypanthium obconical, 5–nerved, densely hirsute.
Annual erect herb, up to 25 cm. tall, hirsute.
Calyx–lobes c. 2·5 mm. long, hirsute.
