Leaves 30–60 x 3–12(17) mm., alternate, sessile to subpetiolate, very narrowly elliptic to elliptic, acute with cuneate base, ± hirsute; margin incrassate, undulate–dentate; upper leaves of ± the same size as the lower ones, forming a sort of involucre.
Corolla 5–7 mm. long, white or blue, split almost to the base into lanceolate lobes, glabrous outside, ± puberulous inside near the base; tube 0·1–0·4 mm. long.
Inflorescences terminal, dense, capitate, round or somewhat elongated; flowers subsessile or sometimes with glabrous or hairy pedicels up to 4 mm. long.
Ovary 3–locular, semi–inferior, style longer than the corolla, thickened in the upper part, eglandular, glabrous below; lobes 3, 0·6–0·8 mm. long.
Seeds 0·5–0·7 mm. long, elliptic in outline with acute ends, trigonous; testa almost smooth.
Filament–bases dilated, very shortly and densely ciliate; anthers 1·5–3 mm. long.
Hypanthium obconical or hemispherical, glabrous or almost so, 5–nerved.
Stems erect, rarely unbranched, ± hirsute or glabrescent.
Annual or ? short–lived perennial herb, up to 1 m. tall.
Capsule 3–locular, 5–nerved, valves c. 1 mm. long.
Calyx–lobes 2–4 mm. long, glabrous or ciliate.
