Annual ± erect herb, 10–70 cm. tall.. Stem from a taproot, often branched from the base, glabrous or ± hirsute below.. Leaves alternate or lower ones sometimes opposite, linear to elliptic or narrowly lanceolate or oblanceolate, up to 15–85 mm. long, 3–20 mm. wide, acute to subacute, ± hirsute or glabrescent, sometimes ciliate; margin thin or ± cartilaginous, ± undulate-dentate; midvein prominent beneath, lateral veins visible or obscure.. Inflorescence lax; pedicels up to 60 mm. long, glabrous.. Hypanthium ± obconical to obovoid, (5–) 10-nerved, glabrous.. Calyx-lobes 3–5, 0.8–4.8 mm. long.. Corolla 4–7 mm. long, 3–5-lobed, glabrous outside; tube ± 1.2–3.2 mm. long.. Stamens 3–5; filament-bases narrowly to broadly dilated, ± ciliate; anthers ± 0.6–2.4 mm. long.. Ovary 2–3-locular, subinferior; style somewhat shorter than the corolla, glabrous below; lobes 2–3, with 2–3 minute glands between their bases.. Capsule 3–12 mm. long, 2–3-locular, (5–) 10-nerved, valves 2–3, 0.6–2.4 mm. long.. Seeds elliptic in outline, 0.4–0.6 mm. long; testa almost smooth.
