Leaves up to 10–80 x 0·8–15 mm., alternate, linear to lanceolate or very narrowly elliptic, acute, glabrous or ± pubescent; margin incrassate, slightly revolute, ± undulate–dentate; midvein prominent beneath, lateral veins obscure or visible.
Inflorescence leafy, ± spike–like, sometimes very dense or sometimes with flowers ± loosely clustered in the upper leaf axils; flowers subsessile or on ± hirsute or glabrous up to 5(23) mm. long pedicels.
Corolla 3·5–7·5 mm. long, blue, purplish, yellowish or whitish, split almost to the base into linear lobes, puberulous inside near the base, ± hirsute or glabrous outside.
Ovary 3–locular, subinferior to semi–superior; style c. as long as the corolla, eglandular, hairy or rarely glabrous below; lobes 3, 0·4–0·8 mm. long.
Calyx–lobes 1·2–3·5 mm. long, ± hirsute or glabrous, usually with ± incrassate and sometimes shallowly denticulate margins.
Stems up to 0·2–1 m. tall, usually few, erect, rarely ± decumbent or straggling, glabrous or hirsute or puberulous.
Seeds 0·4–0·7 mm. long, elliptic–oblong in outline, ± compressed and 2–faced, almost smooth.
