Characteristics

Plants 250-500 mm high. Corm subglobose, 14-20 mm diam.; tunics finely netted. Stem simple. Leaves usually 2, lower 1 basal, sometimes burned and apparently lacking, upper leaf partly sheathing stem, ± half as long as spike, linear to narrowly lanceolate, 2.5-6.0(-9.0) mm wide, midrib and margins lightly thickened and hyaline; bract-like cauline leaves 2 to 4, short, green, sheathing, sometimes overlapping. Spike 2-to 7-flowered; bracts green below, dry and brownish apically, 10-16 mm long, inner ± 2/3 as long, bifid apically. Flowers zygomorphic, orange; perianth tube with lower part 8-12 mm long, included or shortly emerging from bracts, upper part horizontal, tubular or narrowly flared, 10-12 mm long, ± 5 mm diam. at mouth; tepals obovate, 18-20 x 7-10 mm, all somewhat spreading. Filaments unilateral, arcuate, ± 10 mm long, not or barely exserted from tube; anthers 7-9 mm long, white. Style dividing shortly beyond anther apices, branches 2-4 mm long. Capsules obovoid, 8-10 mm long. Seeds elongate-angular, up to 4.5 mm long, distal end shortly winged.

Stamens unilateral, arched below upper tepal; filaments 10 mm long; anthers 7-9 mm long, white. Ovary 2.5 mm long; style arched over stamens. Flowering time July-Nov. Capsule obovoid.
