Characteristics

Plants 100-300(-450) mm high. Corm subglobose, ± 15 mm diam.; tunics finely netted. Stem usually simple or occasionally with 1 or 2 branches. Leaves 2 to 4, lower 2 or 3 basal, uppermost partly sheathing stem, reaching ± base of spike, linear to narrowly lanceolate, (2-)3-5 mm wide, margins lightly thickened and purplish; bract-like cauline leaves 1 or 2. Spike (3)6-to 12-flowered; bracts dry and brown in upper half, 8-14 mm long, inner slightly shorter, forked apically for ± 2 mm. Flowers zygomorphic, orange to orange-red, lower tepals with darker median streak; perianth tube with lower part 8-10 mm long, upper part ascending, subcylindric, 9-10 mm long, ± 3 mm diam. at mouth; tepals oblanceolate, 13-15 x 5-7 mm, all widely spreading. Filaments unilateral and arcuate, 15-16 mm long, exserted ± 5 mm from tube; anthers ± 5 mm long, violet. Style arching over stamens, dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 3.5 mm long. Capsules obovoid-truncate, ± 7 mm long. Seeds unknown.
