Characteristics

Plants 200-450 mm high. Corm depressed-globose, 15-25 mm diam.; tunics finely netted. Stem erect, simple. Leaves 1 to 3, lower 1 or 2 basal, third leaf, if present, small and inserted near middle of stem, lowermost longest and reaching or exceeding spike, linear to narrowly lanceolate, 2-8(-11) mm wide, midrib and margins moderately thickened and hyaline; bract-like cauline leaves 1 or 2. Spike 4-to 12-flowered; bracts green or flushed purple, becoming dry and rusty brown from apex, 10-18(-20) mm long, inner 1/2-2/3 (rarely almost as long), forked apically. Flowers zygomorphic, pale pink with dark purple median streak at base of tepals; perianth tube with lower part 10-12 mm long, shortly or not emerging from bracts, upper part ascending, subcylindric, 12-16 mm long, 6 mm diam. at mouth; tepals spreading, obovate, 14-16 x 6-9 mm. Filaments unilateral and arcuate, 14-18 mm long, exserted ± 3 mm from tube; anthers 6-7 mm long, purple. Style arching over stamens, dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 3 mm long. Capsules obovoid, 7-9 mm long. Seeds angular with pronounced proximal and distal ridges, 4.5-5.5 x 2-3 mm.
