Characteristics

Plants (200-)300-500 mm high. Corm depressed-globose, 15-25 mm diam.; tunics coarsely netted. Stem erect or inclined below, simple or with few short, ascending branches. Leaves 4 or 5, mostly basal, uppermost sheathing stem below or entirely, 1/3-2/3 as long as spike, narrowly lanceolate to linear, 5-10 mm wide, main vein and margins strongly thickened and hyaline; bract-like cauline leaves 1 or more, sheathing and bract-like. Spike 5-to 16-flowered; bracts green below and dry and brownish above or entirely, often ± sticky, 9-16 mm long, inner slightly shorter, acute or forked apically for 1-2 mm. Flowers zygomorphic, pink or pale purple, darker in midline of lower 3 or all tepals and with white streak at base; perianth tube funnel-shaped, lower part 12-15 mm long, emerging 3-4 mm from bracts, upper part flaring and nearly horizontal to slightly pendulous, 8-10 mm long, ± 5 mm diam. at mouth; tepals spreading, obovate to oblanceolate, 22-30(-35) x 9-12(-15) mm. Filaments unilateral, decumbent above lower tepal, 10-12(-15) mm long; anthers 9-11(-13) mm long, purple. Style arching below stamens, dividing at ± middle of anthers, branches ± 5 mm long. Capsules elongate-ovoid, up to 14 mm long. Seeds 2-winged.
